welcome

Whether you are new to the area, new to climbing, or looking to volunteer with the AMC Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee, we'd love to meet you! A great way to begin getting involved in the community is to attend an event! All of our events are led by our volunteer Community Activity Leaders, who can answer many of your questions about our programs, trips, and volunteer opportunities. To find upcoming events, take a look at our Events Calendar.

You do not need to join the AMC, live in a specific area, or be a 5.13b climber to be part of our community. Subscribe to our mailing list or email welcome@amcbostonclimbers.com to find out more.

The AMC Boston Chapter Mountaineering Committee relies on volunteers to run our programs and fulfill our mission of making climbing safe and accessible to our community. We have many different opportunities for volunteers, and can be grouped into a few categories:

  • Mountaineering Committee Members

    • Help the committee plan and administrate the community!

  • Community Activity Leaders -- which can have any set of the following qualifications

    • Social Gathering Leader

      • E.g. annual dinner, fireside chat/speaker event, etc.

    • Gym Day Leader

      • E.g. Gym meetup at a CRG/Metrorock/BBP

    • Crag Day Leader

      • E.g. toproping/bouldering/ice climbing at a crag; Crow Hill, Hammond Pond, etc.

    • Adventure Weekend Leader

      • E.g. Harvard Open Cabin Weekends, Acadia, Gunks Fall Frolic, etc.

    • Instructional Program Leader

      • E.g. Rock, Ice, Sport Programs, and others

  • Supporting volunteers — even if you are not leading activities, the leaders often need help!

    • Equipment management and coordination

    • Outfitter/guide relationships and partnerships

    • Activity planning for gatherings and programs

    • And much more!

The above roles cover a wide range of volunteer opportunities; if you have anything specific you're interested in offering to the community, please feel free to reach out! We are always looking for volunteers who are interested in giving back to the local climbing community.

If you are interested in joining our dedicated group of volunteers please contact volunteers@amcbostonclimbers.com for more information.
